From Our Clients...

Dear Dr. Maimon,
Thank you very much for the great exams you gave Rocky and Sarah... and being so kind and light on my purse strings.  I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Boarding FAQ
What are your boarding policies?

We want your pet to enjoy his or her stay with us.  To better serve each client and patient, Hills and Dales Veterinary Clinic requires that customers complete a boarding agreement for each pet at the time of check-in.  Boarding agreements are mailed to our clients up to two weeks prior to the reservation date, or can be filled out using our new online form.  Please review this agreement and complete the information specific to your pet's needs in the spaces provided.  If you have additional concerns, please attach a piece of paper which details the extra needs of your pet.

Be sure to provide a valid phone number and the name of an emergency contact person who can be reached at all times.  Your emergency contact person must be authorized to make decisions and be financially responsible for all treatment deemed necessary in your absence.

Vaccinations must be current and verifiable in order to board your pet. This is for your pet's protection as well as others boarding with us.  If your pet's vaccinations are not current, vaccination immediately before boarding will not prove to be helpful.  The Bordetella vaccine must be current or administered at least 7 days prior to boarding.  The DHPP, FVRCP, and Rabies vaccines must be administered at least 21 days prior to boarding in order to provide adequate protection.

All pets will be checked thoroughly for fleas on admission and release.  If your pet has fleas, flea treatment will be applied and charged at the owner's expense.

Dorothy once told Toto, "There's no place like home," but we try to make our facility as close to home as possible.  Please understand that boarding under the best conditions can become stressful for your pet.  In order to avoid this as much as humanly possible, be sure your pet is current on vaccinations and that you have provided us with all the necessary information to care for your pet.

Does my pet need to have current vaccinations?

Vaccines must be current and verifiable in order to board your pet.  This is for your pet's protection, as well as others boarding with us.  Many viruses and diseases are often present in your pet's body, but natural antibodies are able to keep pathogens from causing disease.  Stress can allow your pet's immune system to weaken, enabling the ability of a pathogen to become stronger and cause illness.

If your pet is not current on vaccines, vaccinating your pet immediately before boarding will not prove to be helpful.  The Bordetella vaccine must be current or administered at least 7 days prior to boarding.  The DHPP, FVRCP, and Rabies vaccines must be administered at least 21 days prior to boarding in order to provide adequate protection.

How will my pet be cared for while I'm away?

You can rest assured your pet will be well cared for and supervised on a daily basis by our dedicated and compassionate staff.  A detailed summary of your pet's activities are available upon request.  These summaries document your pet's appetite, weight gain or loss, attitude, urinary and fecal output, and all medication.

All boarding guests receive a complimentary nail trim, and guests staying seven nights or more will also receive a bubble bath and brush.

Our state-of-the-art kennels are spacious and clean.  Food bowls are washed daily, and fresh food and water are always provided.  Freshly laundered blankets, towels, and fleece throws are provided, and soiled ones are removed and replaced with clean ones at least twice daily.

What will my pet be fed while in your care?

At Hills and Dales Veterinary Clinic, we offer the highest quality nutrition; Eukanuba, Iams, or Science Diet foods are routinely fed to each pet twice daily unless instructed otherwise by pet owners.  Food bowls are washed daily and fresh food and water are always provided.  Clients are welcome to provide their own pet food, if desired.

Please understand that boarding under the best conditions can be stressful for your pet.  If you believe your pet is prone to diarrhea or vomiting brought on my stress, it is recommended that you provide us with the same food normally fed to your pet at home.

What if my pet is on a special diet?
Clients are welcome to provide their own pet food, if necessary (or desired).

What time should I drop off/pick up my pet?
Your pet may be dropped off by 6pm, and picked up after 8am on your return.  We request that each boarding pet be picked up by 12pm on the scheduled departing date.  If your pet stays past noon, an additional day of boarding will be charged as we will have fed, exercised, and medicated your pet at least twice.

What should I bring with my pet?

There is no need to bring blankets, bedding, or rawhides from home.  As long as your pet does not find pleasure in shredding them, we provide freshly laundered blankets, towel, and fleece throws for your pet to lie on.  Soiled ones are removed and replaced with clean ones at least twice daily.

Rawhide chews can become a choking hazard.  We can offer C.E.T. Hextra Chews for your pet's enjoyment and oral health during his or her stay with us.  These chews provide chewing bliss for a short time, melt and soften after a few minutes, and are the best dental chews available.  Your pet's kisses will be sweet smelling upon your return!  If you are interested in this service, please speak to our receptionist at the time of check-in.  Because we care for your pet's well-being, linens and rawhides will not be accepted at the time of check-in.  Thank you for your understanding.

Will my pet get exercise and play time while in your care?
Your pet will receive exercise and a change of scenery at least three to four times daily.  Our caregivers provide several daily walks in the grassy areas around our practice and give our guests plenty of time to stretch, walk, and make important decisions regarding urination and defecation.  Individual playtime is offered to each pet.

How is my pet protected while in your care?

Our state-of-the-art kennels provide both comfort and protection for your boarding pet.  Each kennel is equipped with isolated plumbing to eliminate contact with other pets' urine/feces.  All of our boarded pets are required to have current and verifiable vaccinations, and are checked thoroughly and treated at check-in for fleas.

Cats are kept in a completely separate area from dogs, and sleep to the sound of classical music to reduce stress.

Animals with infectious or potentially contageous diseases are kept in our isolation ward, and have no contact with other pets in our boarding kennels or elsewhere in the building.
